Interviews
Interviews is a common
technique consisting of asking
subject matter experts questions in order to elicit useful
information from them.

The typical objectives of interviews are to:
- Obtain new information.
- Iterate existing information.
Interviews can typically begin when the following
preconditions hold:
- All stakeholders and domain experts have been adequately
reviewed.
- Time for interviews has run out.
Interviews is typically complete if the following
postconditions hold:
- All stakeholders and domain experts have been
interviewed.
During interviews, various rolls typically perform the
following steps in an incremental, iterative, parallel, and
time-boxed manner:
- Prepare for the interviews:
- Determine the purpose of the interview.
- Identify relevant stakeholders and domain experts to
interview.
- Prepare interview checklist(s).
- Obtain access to a place where the interviews can take
place.
- Schedule the interviews (with the interviewees).
- Send the interviewees preliminary documentation to read
prior to the interviews.
- Hold the interviews:
- Document the interview results:
- Iterate the interviews:
Interviews typically results in the following work
products:
- Interview notes.
- Optionally, tape or video recordings of the
interviews.
Interviews is typically subject to the following
limitations:
- Interviews are less useful than JAD workshops at
identifing new information, iterating that information, and
developing a consensus about that information.
- Interviewing is best done in conjunction with other
techniques.
