Initiation Review
Initiation review is the
quality control
task during which the deliverable
work
products produced during an
endeavor’s
initiation phase are reviewed by representatives of
stakeholder
organizations, especially the
customer organization.
The typical objectives of the initiation review task are
to:
- Inform Stakeholders.
Inform the external stakeholder organizations of the
status of the endeavor in order to obtain a consensus as to
whether or not the initiation phase have been successfully
completed.
- Identify Major Defects.
Identify any major defects in the deliverable work
products that must be corrected or any incomplete tasks that
must be finished prior to the successful completion of the
initiation phase.
- Obtain Authorization to Continue.
Obtain the
customer representatives’ decision on whether or not
to continuing the endeavor including authorization to start
the
construction phase.
- Make Course Corrections.
Obtain any directions for major course corrections from
the customer representative(s).
The initiation review task can typically begin when the
following preconditions hold:
- The development organization believes that the initiation
complete milestone has been reached.
- The
initiation
audit task has been successfully completed.
- The stakeholders are available to take part in the
review.
The initiation review task is typically complete when the
following postconditions hold:
- Review materials have been produced and approved.
- The review has been held.
- The review report has been produced and approved.
