Data And Content Constraints
A
data and content constraint is a
constraint that constrains the
architecture, design, or implementation of a data
component.
The typical objectives of a data and content constraint are
to:
- Ensure that the architecture, design, or implementation
of the data components are appropriately constrained to meet
business or technical objectives.
The following are typical examples of data and content
constraints:
- “To the extent that it is practical, all textual
content of the application shall be in the form of the
eXtensible Markup Language (XML).”
- “To the extent that it is practical, all graphical
content of the application shall be in the form of the .gif
or .jpeg files.“
- “To the extent that it is practical, all persistent
data shall be stored in relational databases.”
- “All persistent data shall be stored in Oracle
databases.”
The following guidelines have been found to be useful when
producing data and content constraints:
- Do not unnecessarily constrain the architecture, design,
or implementation of data components.
